    asit kalyāṇa-kaṭaka-vāstavya: bhairava: nāma vyadha: /

there-was of-Kalyāna-kataka-inhabitant Bhairava a-hunter

 

    sa: ca ekadā mṛgam anviyamāṇa: vindhyāṭavīm gatavān /

and he once deer pursuing to-Vindhya-forest went

 

    tata: tena vyāpaditam mṛgam ādāya gaccatā

then by-him killed-deer having-taken-up going

ghorākṛti: śūkara: dṛṭa: /

of-formidable-appearance boar was-seen

 

    tena vyādhena mṛgam bhūmau nidhāya śūkara: śareṇa hata: /

by-that-hunter deer on-ground having-laid boar with-arrow hit

 

    śūkareṇa api ghanaghoragarjanam kṛtvā

by-boar even as-of-clouds-a-terrible-roar having-made

 

    sa: vyādha: mukadeśe hata: chinna-druma iva papāta /

the hunter in-groin struck tree-cut-at-root like fell

 

    atha tayo: pādāsphālanena sarpa: api mṛta: /

now of-them by-feet-trampling snake also was-killed

 

    atha anantaram dīrgharāva: nāma jambuka: paribhraman āhārārthī

now afterwards Dīrgharāva jackal roaming-about food-seeking

tān mṛtān mṛga-vyādha-sarpa -śūkarān apaśyat acintayat ca /

those dead deer-hunter-serpent-boor saw and contemplated

 

    aha: adya mahad bhojyam me samupasthitam / athavā

oh today great meal of-me fallen-in-the-way however

 

    tat bhavatu / eām mamsai: māsatrayam me sukhena gamiyati /

that let-be of-these with-flesh 3 months to-me pleasantly will-pass
